On Kongtong Island, Yantai, Shandong, guests now stand beneath the largest inner LED dome screen in Asia: 60 meters in diameter, 5,300 m² of active display area, engineered as a mechanically dynamic shell with openable sections — and validated at every step against the harshest condition of all: a seaside environment on an open island.
What Makes This Dome Different
Most large domes are static. The Kongtong dome moves: selected dome sections open and close kinetically during the show, revealing the structure above while the remaining panels keep playing at full brightness. Coordinating motion systems, safety interlocks, sealing and continuous display output across a 60 m-diameter shell is a control problem few LED manufacturers have ever had to solve — and it is now proven daily in front of paying visitors.
Engineering for the Sea
- Corrosion control: salt-fog-rated hardware and coating systems specified for marine exposure, validated through 72-hour salt-spray testing of fasteners and structures.
- Thermal management: full thermal simulation of the enclosed 60 m-diameter volume, so the 1,200-nit shell holds brightness uniformity (deviation ≤ 5%) without overheating in summer operation.
- Structural integration: the screen steel was co-designed with the island's architecture — loads, vibration and maintenance access planned from the first drawing, not retrofitted.
One Package, One Responsible Party
Luminatii delivered the project as a single integrated package: steel structure + screen body + playback control, with on-site installation supervision, commissioning and operator training. Every panel on the 60 m-diameter shell was individually modeled and numbered for its position — the same methodology we now apply on domes from 5 m to 60 m diameter worldwide.
Why It Matters for Buyers
The Kongtong dome is our validation platform: pixel pitch options from P1.8 to P4, sound-transparent panels, kinetic motion, 8K-ready playback and the parallel-LED reliability design (a single failed lamp never affects its neighbors) were all proven at this scale first. Whatever diameter your venue needs — from a 5 m exhibit dome to a 60 m landmark, or any custom size beyond — it runs on engineering that has already passed the biggest test available.
Planning a dome from 5 m to 60 m in diameter? The Kongtong project means the engineering questions have already been answered once — we can start from proof, not from theory.
