Straight answers from the factory floor: sizes, pixel pitch, steel structure, lead time, certifications, warranty and export. No sales talk — engineering facts.
An LED dome screen (inner dome) is installed inside a hemispherical building or ceiling and is viewed from below and around — it is the screen of choice for immersive cinemas, flying theaters and planetariums. A spherical LED display (ball screen) is a self-supporting sphere, usually outdoors or in an atrium, viewed from all directions — it serves science museums, commercial plazas and city landmarks as an iconic media facade.
Luminatii manufactures both product lines, engineered as separate systems. See our LED dome screens and spherical LED displays pages for details.
Projection domes win on initial price for very large diameters, but an LED dome delivers far higher brightness (usable with ambient light), true 8K-class sharpness with no edge blending, 10,000:1 contrast, no projector lamp or filter maintenance, and a 10+ year service life.
For commercial flying theaters and attractions that run shows all day, every day, LED is the lower total-cost choice; projection still suits temporary events and extreme budgets.
Yes. Steel structure + screen body + playback control system is our standard one-package delivery. The steel is pre-engineered against your building drawings, factory-fabricated, and installed by our crew or under our supervision, so screen curvature and structure are guaranteed to match.
Yes. Outdoor ball screens from 2 m to 26 m diameter have been delivered, including a 26 m full outer-sphere display in the Philippines and a 6 m-diameter landmark sphere in Hezheng, Gansu. Outdoor versions are engineered with IP65-rated waterproof modules, UV-resistant surface treatment and wind-load structural calculations for the site.
A flying theater hangs or tilts riders on a motion platform facing a large curved screen or inner LED dome — the thrill is the flight sensation, ideal for theme parks and tourism landmarks. A dome cinema seats viewers inside a full or half LED dome that wraps 180°–360° around them — the draw is total immersion, ideal for science centers, museums and cultural shows.
Both run on the same Luminatii LED dome platform — the difference is seating, motion platform and content. Tell us your venue and audience and we will recommend the format with the better payback.
Correct — diameter is not a "the bigger the better" decision. It is back-calculated from four factors: venue volume (height and width set the ceiling), audience capacity, viewing distance (which drives perceived pixel grain), and budget — dome surface area and cost grow roughly with the square of the diameter, and structural and splicing complexity rise sharply beyond 10 m.
We have delivered the full range: 5 m and 8 m domes in Beijing, a 7 m flying-theater dome in Shenzhen, 14 m in Guiyang, 20 m in Changzhi, 22 m flying-theater domes in Chengdu and up to 60 m on Kongtong Island. Our engineers calculate optimal diameter from best viewing distance and field-of-view coverage, so you don't over-invest or under-deliver.
A flying theater dome must survive a much harsher duty cycle: riders tilt and pitch while the picture moves at high speed, so the dome needs wide field-of-view coverage, acoustically transparent panels, structural safety margins, and millisecond-level synchronization between picture, motion platform and audio.
Luminatii is the industry-recognized pioneer of LED flying-theater inner domes, with delivered flying-theater projects including the 7 m Shenzhen dome and the 22 m Chengdu Happy Valley dome.
An inner dome is viewed from inside the sphere — the classic form for immersive cinemas, flying theaters and planetariums (our 60 m Kongtong Island dome and 22 m Chengdu dome are inner domes). An outer sphere (LED ball screen) is viewed from outside — a landmark display like the 26 m outer sphere in the Philippines. A dome-in-dome nests a small sphere inside a large dome for dual-sphere shows.
Kongtong Island is the flagship example: inside the 60 m dome sits a 6 m interactive openable sphere, running synchronized with digital floor screens and kinetic elements — a configuration with no prior precedent worldwide.
Yes. "720°" means the audience is wrapped by picture on all axes: dome above and around, digital floor screens below, ring screens at eye level, plus kinetic and flexible-screen elements. Our Huangshi dinosaur park project runs 22 m and 28 m acoustically transparent domes in a 720° configuration, and the 60 m Kongtong Island dome combines dome, digital floor, flexible curved screens and large-scale machinery for the same effect.
Yes. A 360° wrap-around surface is one of the best carriers for glasses-free 3D. With 10,000:1 contrast, NTSC 90%+ color gamut, 7,680 Hz refresh and 16-bit gray scale, the picture carries a strong sense of depth and motion without any headgear — and multi-screen projects (dome + floor + ring) extend the effect into full 720° immersion.
Both work; the choice follows viewing distance and budget. COB offers smaller effective pixel size, higher pixel density, wider viewing angle and better impact resistance — ideal for close-viewing premium domes. SMD is more cost-efficient at larger sizes and pitches. We recommend the packaging after calculating your seat layout and minimum viewing distance, not by spec-sheet habit.
For a flat video wall, a generalist is fine. A dome is a different animal: spherical steel, curved splicing, acoustics, kinetic machinery and show control must be engineered together. The single most reliable filter is real delivered cases — ask for photos, addresses and client references of domes actually running today.
Luminatii has delivered 20+ large dome projects from 5 m to 60 m diameter, including Asia's largest LED dome, and is the recognized pioneer of flying-theater inner domes.
Because a dome is not a bent flat screen. Two domes with the same area can differ enormously in diameter and structure, pixel pitch, steel scope, sound transparency, kinetic machinery, environmental protection and playback systems. Quoting per square meter hides exactly the costs that decide whether the project succeeds.
We quote itemized — screen body, steel, control, playback, installation and training listed separately — so you can compare configurations, not just unit prices. Unusually low quotes usually mean economy LEDs, non-branded power supplies or a stripped control system.
LED dome screens: 5 m to 60 m in diameter delivered, including Asia's largest 5,300 m² dome on Kongtong Island. Spherical LED displays: 2 m to 26 m in diameter delivered.
Both ranges are fully custom — any diameter is engineered panel-by-panel to your site. There is no catalogue limit and no upper size cap: tell us the diameter you need and we build it.
Yes. Every project is modeled individually. Send us the building drawings and we will return a structural and optical feasibility proposal — panels are curved and numbered per position, so diameter and coverage angle are free parameters, not fixed options.
It depends on viewing distance and content. Typical choices: P1.8–P1.9 for close-viewing domes under 10 m, P2–P2.5 for 15–25 m immersive domes, P3–P4 for very large domes where viewers are tens of meters away.
We select the pitch together with you against seat layout, minimum viewing distance and budget.
Our indoor dome platform delivers 1,200 nit with brightness uniformity deviation ≤ 5%, bright enough for pre-show lighting and walk-in operation. Outdoor spherical displays are configured at higher brightness for direct daylight. Brightness is adjustable scene by scene through the control system.
Yes. Our 60 m Kongtong Island dome — Asia's largest at 5,300 m² — is a mechanically dynamic inner dome with openable sections. Kinematic design is one of our specializations; tell us the movement concept and we will engineer the drive, safety and sealing systems.
An acoustically transparent LED dome is a perforated LED dome screen that lets speaker sound pass through the screen, so surround audio can be hidden behind it. Ours uses 50% perforation with sound loss under 5% and audio-visual sync error below 0.02 s, so speakers can be hidden behind the screen — essential for flying theaters and immersive cinemas. Read the full engineering guide: acoustically transparent LED domes explained.
The 60 m Kongtong Island dome panels weigh only 8.5 kg per square meter, and our standard dome panels stay under 15 kg/m² — versus 15–25 kg/m² typical in the industry. Weight drives everything downstream: steel tonnage, building load, transport and installation time.
For retrofit projects or buildings with limited load capacity, lightweight panels are often the difference between feasible and impossible — and they save real steel cost on every project.
Dome content is dominated by fast motion — flight, aerial and chase footage. 7,680 Hz refresh (double the 3,840 Hz industry norm) eliminates flicker and motion tearing on camera and to the eye, while 16-bit gray scale provides 65,536 brightness steps, so night skies and gradients stay perfectly smooth with no color banding.
Consistency on a curved surface is one of the hardest quality problems in the industry. Ours is controlled to brightness uniformity deviation ≤ 5% and color deviation ≤ 2ΔE across the entire 5,300 m² Kongtong dome — achieved through strict LED binning, per-pixel factory calibration and a patented control system that compensates regional differences in real time. Viewers see one seamless surface from any seat.
Uncorrected video sources warp badly on a sphere — circles become ovals and lines bend. Our playback chain applies geometry correction and pixel-accurate spherical mapping tuned to the exact panel layout, and modules are built in triangular and trapezoidal formats with independently adjustable angles to match the curvature. The result is an undistorted image everywhere on the dome, protected by our patented control and correction methods.
Yes — resolution is a function of total pixel count, and the 5,300 m² Kongtong dome delivers true 8K with seamless splicing; our playback systems support 8K and beyond (16K-class source playback) for larger venues. Because LED is self-emissive, there are no projection blending zones — every pixel is real. We match resolution to viewing distance so you don't pay for pixels the audience cannot see.
Far lower than you would expect. At 1,200 nit brightness our dome draws a maximum of 150 W per square meter on a full white screen — about one quarter to one third of the 500–600 W/m² typical of indoor LED domes. On the 5,300 m² Kongtong dome that difference saves a substantial amount of electricity every operating hour.
Add a 100,000-hour LED life with no lamps or filters to replace, and the 50% perforated structure easing HVAC load — total cost of ownership is dramatically lower than projection alternatives.
High-grade LEDs give a service life of over 100,000 hours. Individual LED failure does not cascade — the parallel drive design keeps the rest of the surface playing normally. Modules are serviceable from front and rear with one technician, and the control system supports remote diagnostics to locate faults quickly. There is no scenario where one bad module blacks out the dome.
No. The perforation is a precision-engineered acoustic structure, not simple drilling — every hole's size, spacing and pattern is calculated optically and mechanically. On-screen, the image stays complete with no visible grid even on the 8K Kongtong dome; structurally, the panels meet full dome load requirements with 50% perforation, sound loss under 5% and audio-visual sync error below 0.02 s.
Outdoor products carry IP65-rated waterproof modules with sealed connectors, conformal coating and corrosion-resistant hardware, rated for -20°C to +80°C. For marine environments we add a dedicated anti-moisture, anti-dust, anti-salt-fog package — proven on the Kongtong Island 60 m dome, which operates on a high-humidity island off the Shandong coast. Tropical, coastal and cold-climate sites all have reference installations.
Yes. Beyond full spheres and ball screens we build hemispheres, bowls, ellipsoids, suspended globes and free-form shapes that merge with architecture. Creative shaped displays are a core Luminatii competency — the same portfolio covers grid screens, transparent screens and holographic screens, so a landmark project can mix formats freely.
Yes, and large immersive projects usually should be. The dome covers the sky, a digital floor covers the ground, ring screens cover the horizon and holographic or flexible curved screens handle specialty effects — all driven on one synchronized timeline. The Kongtong Island project runs exactly this combination: dome, digital floor with 10 lifting display units, flexible curved screens and large-scale kinetic machinery.
Three basics: a structure that can carry the screen and steel (we provide exact load data), sufficient interior volume for the chosen diameter and viewing angle, and standard power plus network access.
Send us the architectural drawings and we will confirm feasibility, loads and mounting details free of charge.
Typical domes are installed in 15–45 days on site depending on diameter and height access; mega projects are phased — the 60 m Kongtong dome was engineered and installed on site in about 180 days. Spheres from 2–10 m are usually up in a few days.
Yes. For dome projects, on-site installation guidance, commissioning and operator training are included in the standard scope. For spherical displays, we can deliver with supervised installation or send a full crew, depending on your local capability.
Yes, and we do it routinely. We provide the screen-side engineering (structure loads, panel layout, cable routing, control room layout) and coordinate with your GC and AV integrator throughout. Boundary drawings are issued in DWG/PDF for the design team.
The most useful set: floor plan and section drawings, clear interior height, column grid, floor or roof load capacity, power supply capacity, equipment entrance and lifting access, planned seating layout, show concept and a budget range. With drawings alone we can return a free feasibility assessment, load data and concept proposal — you don't need dimensions finalized to start the conversation.
Usually yes, with tailored design. Options include reducing the dome's sagitta (shallow-dome geometry), building a partial or ceiling dome instead of a full hemisphere, and thinning the steel and panel build-up. We have fitted domes from 5 m to 60 m into very different buildings; send us the height and drawings and we will confirm what fits.
Maintenance access is designed in from day one, not improvised later: walkways, access hatches, power-supply locations and cable routes are coordinated in the structural design. Our domes support front and rear service, with one technician able to swap modules. During installation, plan roughly 2–3 m of working clearance around the dome; permanent clearance needs are confirmed in the layout drawings.
Yes, and for large custom domes it is non-negotiable. Modules, power, signal chains and control systems are pre-assembled and burned-in at our Huizhou production base; complex projects also verify screen-to-machinery show logic before anything ships. Sorting out interfaces in the factory is dramatically cheaper than discovering them on scaffolding.
Transport and lifting are engineered from the design stage: module-level packing sized to your site access, a transport route survey, crane and rigging planning, and a phased installation schedule. The 60 m Kongtong dome — 5,300 m² of panels plus steel and machinery on an island — was delivered on an approximately 180-day engineering-to-opening timeline, which shows the machinery we bring to logistics.
We supply the content mapping and playback system calibrated to your exact panel layout, plus basic commissioning content. For original show films we cooperate with established dome content studios and manage the delivery interface, or we hand over full technical specifications to a content partner of your choice.
Our playback system integrates with the major show-control and media-server platforms used in themed entertainment, and with flight-ride motion platforms from the leading ride suppliers. Tell us which show-control ecosystem your park uses and we will confirm the interface before contract.
Yes — integration with major flight-ride and show-control platforms is standard for us, including genlock, motion-to-picture latency tuning and show-trigger handshaking. Several of our delivered domes operate as flying theaters today.
Yes. Our playback server accepts fulldome masters and equirectangular content and maps them pixel-accurately onto the dome panel layout, so no geometry distortion appears on the curved surface. Content produced for projection domes can usually be reused on an LED dome after a calibration pass — we handle that mapping as part of delivery.
Yes. Flat films play warped on a sphere, so shows must be produced or re-mastered in spherical formats (fulldome masters or equirectangular sources) and mapped to your exact dome geometry. We provide the mapping calibration and playback system as part of delivery, cooperate with established dome content studios, and recommend locking content specifications during screen design — not after installation.
Seat layout follows dome diameter, screen distance and field-of-view coverage — not flat-cinema habit. Seats too close see pixel grain; seats at the geometry edge see a weak experience. We co-plan the seating zones with your architect during dome design so every seat sits inside the sweet spot.
Power is calculated from screen area, peak power, actual show brightness and the rest of the cinema equipment — then split into zones with structured cabling and spare capacity for future expansion. We issue the electrical load schedule during design so your MEP team can plan in parallel rather than retrofit.
Our aluminum-alloy modules and efficient power supplies run cool for their class, and the 50% perforated structure lets air move through the screen, reducing HVAC load versus a sealed dome. Even so, large cinemas should include screen heat dissipation in the building MEP design — we supply the thermal data for your engineers at design stage.
By design, not by exception. Large domes must remain penetrable for sprinklers, water cannons, smoke extraction and escape routes — the 60 m Kongtong dome, for example, incorporates dedicated fire-cannon openings in the dome structure alongside mechanical motion envelopes. We coordinate openings, materials and clearances with your fire consultant and local code from the structural design phase.
Yes — after mechanical installation, the full surface is calibrated on site and verified against contractual metrics: brightness uniformity, color consistency (ΔE), splicing quality, geometry, show synchronization and safety items. Acceptance criteria are written into the contract before production starts, so there is no argument about "what good looks like" at handover.
Typical domes: 45–90 days after drawings are confirmed. Mega projects (60 m-diameter class) are engineered in phases — around 180 days on site. Spherical displays: roughly 30–60 days depending on diameter and customization. Exact schedules are fixed in the contract.
CE (EMC + LVD), FCC, UL/IEC 62368-1 for product safety, plus ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 for the factory and CCC for the Chinese market. We provide full export documentation support including packing lists, certificates of origin and test reports.
Luminatii products operate in 87 countries and regions. Luminatii holds 70+ invention and utility-model patents and 6 software copyrights, with an R&D team of 50+ engineers spanning electronics, structure, optics and software. The company is a certified national high-tech enterprise. The patents cover exactly what matters on a dome: intelligent control, image correction on curved surfaces, protective structures and the mechanics of kinetic domes.
Absolutely — and we encourage it. Visit the Shenzhen headquarters and the Huizhou production base to see production and QC firsthand, and we can arrange visits to operating dome projects among our 20+ delivered installations. Seeing a real dome playing real shows is worth more than any brochure.
Cost is driven by diameter, coverage angle, pixel pitch, structure scope and customization (openable sections, sound transparency, outdoor rating). Because every dome is a bespoke project, there is no one catalog price — but you always get an itemized budget range before committing.
Send the drawings and requirements, and you receive an itemized quotation — screen body, steel, control, installation and training listed separately — within one business day.
Standard payment is 30% deposit / 70% before shipment, adjustable for large projects. Warranty covers the standard term with lifetime remote support; on-site commissioning and operator training are included for dome projects. Spare-part kits ship with every system and consumable modules are stocked for long-term supply.
The itemized scope covers: LED screen body (modules, power supplies, receiving cards), steel structure design and fabrication, playback and control system, cables and auxiliary materials, shipping and insurance, installation and commissioning, and operator training. Because we deliver steel + screen + control as one package, there are no interface gaps or finger-pointing between suppliers — and no hidden extras.
Nine steps with a dedicated project manager throughout: inquiry and site survey → scheme design and technical verification → quotation and contract → deepened structural and screen design → production and steel fabrication → site installation → system integration and trial runs → acceptance and training → after-sales support. You always know which stage the project is in and who owns the next action.
Yes, and that is the normal way to start. Share the project location, intended use, building space, expected audience, content ideas and budget range. Our engineers will propose the dome type, diameter, pixel pitch, acoustic treatment, steel concept and phasing — a concept proposal costs you nothing and typically sharpens the whole project brief.
A well-programmed dome is a traffic engine, not a cost center. Our Huangshi dinosaur park project — 22 m and 28 m acoustically transparent domes — has run as the park's visitor magnet since opening in June 2024, with daily attendance exceeding expectations. Actual payback depends on ticketing, throughput and show programming; share your visitor projections and pricing and we will help you model the numbers before you commit.
Send us your drawings and questions — an engineer (not a salesman) replies within one business day.
